How to apply for Aadhar Card
Aadhaar enrolment is a fairly straightforward process that involves visiting an enrolment center and submitting your documents. Here’s a breakdown of how to apply for an Aadhaar card in India:
1. Locate an Enrolment Center:
- You can visit any authorized Aadhaar Enrolment Center (AEC) in India.
- There are AECs at various locations like banks, post offices, BSNL offices, and government offices.
- Use the UIDAI website to find an enrolment center near you: https://appointments.uidai.gov.in/easearch.aspx
2. Documents Required:
- You’ll need to carry original and photocopies of documents for both Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA).
- UIDAI accepts a wide range of documents. You can find the complete list on their website: https://www.uidai.gov.in/images/commdoc/valid_documents_list.pdf
- Common examples of PoI include Voter ID, Passport, Driving License, PAN Card (for identity only).
- Common examples of PoA include Bank statements, Utility bills (electricity, water, phone), Ration card.
3. The Enrolment Process:
- Once at the AEC, fill out an enrolment form provided by the center.
- Your fingerprints and iris scan will be captured for biometric data.
- The officials will verify your submitted documents.
- You’ll receive an acknowledgement slip containing your Enrolment ID.
4. Aadhaar Download and PVC Card:
- You can download your e-Aadhaar (electronic copy) from the UIDAI website after receiving your Aadhaar number (usually within a few weeks). This requires a registered mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
- Alternatively, you can visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) or an enrolment center to download a colored printout for a fee.
- You can also order a PVC Aadhaar card from the UIDAI website for a minimal charge.
Important Points:
- Aadhaar enrolment is completely free of charge.
- Do not share your Aadhaar number with anyone unless absolutely necessary.
- Keep your enrolment ID and acknowledgement slip safe for future reference.
